Current state of site

I have recently updated both the version of the Joomla Content Management System that powers this site and taken the opportunity to make the switch to a more modern template. The Joomla upgrade was mainly as a reaction to a spate of hacking attacks and the template upgrade was - well, because it was long overdue and also because due to my recent tie- in with the team over at I had access to better templates.

As ever I am very much behind with the maintenance of this site, there are one or two rough edges actually introduced during the upgrade and there are still plenty of issues outstanding from before the upgrade.

I am currently quite busy working on my Joomla components

Amazon Products Feed Bridge, which integrates MrRat's Amazon Products Feed with Joomla providing a fully searchable online store within Joomla generated sites.  I have created a new section on the site for the development version of this component. If you use Joomla and are used to testing Beta software then please investigate this component. Expected time for a stable version 1.0 September 2006

Order Form - a very simple e-commerce solution that will allow a website operator to showcase twenty to thirty products in a list with prices and a space to enter quantities next to each product. The shopper adds all of his purchases at once - as with an 'Order Form' - clicks through, adds his/her address and other contact details and then selects a payment method. Currently two options are supported 'Paypal' and 'Pay by Cheque'. Emails are sent to the site operator and the purchaser. As I said it is very simple in approach  - but somewhat taxing on my limited programming skills. Expected time for a stable version 1.0 March/April 2007

I recently added a newsletter sign-up block (or module in Joomla speak) for you to stay abreast of latest developments, please stay tuned, I will be adding more mailing lists over the coming weeks.

I have launched a new sub-site - to support my APF Bridge development work. Whilst it occupies a folder within it is a totally separate Joomla installation - and may one day be spun off to a separate domain.

To Do List:

  • Integrate a Joomla plug-in (mambot) that will allow me to integrate relevant product details directly into my articles.
  • Upgrade the APF Bridge component running the APF Bridge demo store.
  • Add more Joomla tips and tricks as I get the time.
