Joomla Versions Launch Dates

Joomla 1.0 - Joomla 1.5 - Joomla 1.6 - Joomla 1.7 Launch Dates

Joomla 1.0

Launched on 16th September 2005, the original version of Joomla was released, This version was based heavily on Mambo 4.5.  Future versions, up until the final release of Joomla 1.0.15 ( Released 21st February 2008) heralded steady improvements in stabiliy, security, and general base feature improvements.  November 2008, the Joomla core team announced the end-of-life date for the Joomla 1.0 branch as July 2009.

Joomla 1.5

This version would ultimately be launched on 28th January 2008.  At this point, no more patches for the initial Joomla revision would occur, regardless of severity.  This was due to ever increasing development focus on the Joomla 1.6.  Joomla 1.5 is still an active project with the core team who for the time being will continue to support the 1.5 branch with updates.  The most up-to-date version of this branch is Joomla 1.5.24 made available on Monday 17th October 2011

Joomla 1.6

Released 10th January 2011, rebuilt from the ground up in much of the application, this latest Joomla release will delight the casual site builder while helping small, medium, and enterprise businesses succeed in delivering web sites, intranets and applications to their respective markets.

Joomla 1.7

Released Tuesday 19th July 2011, this is a continuation of the 1.6 branch but is not a long term supported version. The latest version is 1.7.2 released on Monday 17th October 2011.
