![]() Rating: - Enchanting modern day adaptationI haven't read the book, or seen the original 1970s film, so I cannot comment on how true to the original storyline this version is, but I found it to be a very enjoyable film. The child actors were top notch, especially the character of Bobbi, and of course Richard Attenborough and Gregor Fisher are superb too. The photography, costumes and score are also very well done (for an ITV production anyway!) A great family film for watching on a cold Sunday afternoon. Rating: - Wonderful Family MovieThis a very charming movie set in the turn of 20th the Century. I have seen both versions and in my view they are both very fine movies that the whole family can watch. I have to agree with one of the reviews, the brief commentary at the beginning and the end of the movie is in my view detrimental to the production. I really dont understand why the writers did that. Other then then the commentary the movie is very fine. The acting is wonderful, the settings and ... It feels strange that Jenny Agutter who played Bobbie in the 60's, is back to play the mother. She does it very well. I also thouht that the children who play Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter were wonderful. Jemima Rooper, who plays bobbie, has improved since her role as George in the famous five. She is the perfect Bobbie, and even looks the part. The other two who play Phil and Peter capture the charateridtics of there characters well. Full ... I loved the film too, so I was prepared to be disappointed with this new version. I loved it from the very beginning and cried for ages after it was finished. It is a brilliant adaptation of the book - Gregor Fisher totally stole the show, but all the actors were excellent in their parts. I could, and probably will watch this again and again.
