![]() Rating: - Kaurismäki in a playful mood...This film is something of a change of pace for Kaurismäki as it is more unambiguously comic than most of the rest of his oeuvre. Most Kaurismäki films strike a fine balance between a dry, sardonic, black Finnish humour and a sense of drama and gravity, but in Leningrad Cowboys Go America we see a more playful - even Pythonesque at times - Kaurismäki, and very enjoyable it is too! We follow the fortunes of the Leningrad Cowboys, a deeply untalanted band from Siberia who are advised to go to America ... Read More Rating: - Weird, wacky but thoroughly watchable!First saw this film not long after it's release as an 'art house' oddity. Loved it from the start. Watch out for the body in the coffin with his clown-like winkle pickers sticking out - and what a quiff that baby has! (Even the dog gets in on the act). Misss this one at your own risk! Rating: - One of a kind acid-ted-folk road movieThis film has the same unsettling humour that made the League of Gentlemen such a hit. Often it's 'ha ha' funny, often just plain wierd and even poignient in places. You will either love it or hate it! I loved it and I strongly urge all viewers with a wide palette for humour to check this out. Maybe it's an eastern european 'Withnail & I' in that I can see a following building up over the proceeding years... Rating: - A masterpiece which defies descriptionA group of strange folk musicians with preposterous quiffs from the northern Tundra travel to America to learn rock & roll and make it big. Hampered by poor organisation, despotic leadership, naivety, and a guitarist who needs to be carried around in a box while he thaws out (he stayed out practising too long one night), they receive mixed reviews as they travel southwards, evoking a fondly melancholy portrait of the country.
