Electronics : Garmin Nuvi 300 GPS Navigation System With UK MappingRating: - Very good - but (for me) one major flaw. This is my first foray into satnav. I was impressed. It works 'out of the box' and is simple to use. I've had this for over a year now and use it on most journeys, although I only use the navigation when I'm going somewhere I'm unfamiliar with. On the navigation front, it's rarely wrong - direction wise - and the eta is spot on too. I've used the updates over the web without a hitch, and downloaded a free-trial speed camera db. Nice, as after the trial period you still have the db, albeit things change but we shouldn't speed anyway! However, for me there's one thing which marks this down and, had I known this, would've stopped me buying it. When you use the navigation, it doesn't show your current speed. To get that whilst navigating, you have to go to the 'trip computer' screen, which means taking your focus off the road. I believe that the latest versions have changed this, but thought it worthy of mentioning. Rating: - No Congestion charge avoidance!Hi, Not a bad little device my only gripes are it can take a long time to find the satelites when you first turn it on, I live in central London fyi. Also there is no facility to avoid the London CC nor according to Garmin support any plans to add such functionality. Finally the cost to update the maps is chunky you are pretty much better off buying a new system!! Overall does pretty much what is says on the tin but if I had it over I wish I'd gone for the TomTom! Rating: - Garmin nuvi 300I was shopping for computer parts in a very busy city area that I had not visited before. The first shop did not have the parts in stock but gave me the post codes of three possible sources. I fed the codes into the GPS and successfully followed the verbal instructions through circuitous routes and very busy traffic. Shopping completed the GPS took me home. I would hate to try this trip using a street map. Rating: - Great Sat NavI have avoided buying a sat.nav. as I thought it was a bit of a luxury gadget and that a map is better anyway - well I changed my mind! I needed to drive from Nottingham to North Wales and decided that it was a tricky route. This unit is useable RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX - very easy to use. I am now a convert! It enables you to concentrate on driving and watching what is happening on the road - the directions are very clear, you are given loads of warning about the next junction and then talked through again once you are at the junction. A very human voice too, not dititzed at all. I 100% recommend this unit, it is worth the money just because of the safety issue of being able to concentrate on the task of driving. Plus - it saves arguing with your navigator! Rating: - Garmen is the best.I bought this satnav a few weeks ago and used it to get to the middle of wales, travelling from the south coast. this sat nav is a little beauty, I got to the place I wanted without a hitch, just before I pulled up outside the door, the lovely lady let me know in good time, that I had arrived at my destination.the speed camera function is brilliant, and could save you allot of money. I cannot fault this product, I have used it since and for a laugh tried to catch it out, not a chance, it will keep you on course and get you to your destination. really takes the stress out of trying to find a place, BUY IT. John, south coast. |
