Electronics : Lm Technologies 802.11g Wireless G USB Network Adapter for PC & LinuxRating: - wonderful little piece of kit!I ran into problems recently when the built-in wireless modem on my laptop failed. I first tried using a Lucent Technologies wi-fi card that plugs into the PCMCIA slot, but all this did was freeze my machine every time I tried to install it. I bought this LM adapter on the basis of the very positive feedback it had received from other Amazon customers. It arrived within 24 hours and took all of a minute to install - simply plug it in, insert the driver disk, follow the Wizard, and then it's done. It worked first time, and connected me straight to my Netgear router. The connection strength is very good, despite there being a couple of rooms between the laptop and router. I can't recommend this piece of equipment highly enough - simple, effective and low-cost - a star buy! Rating: - a great adaptor for a great price!!!after what seemed like an age trying to find an adaptor that would work with an orange livebox i stumbled across this and decided for £14 i couldnt go that much wrong. I'm glad i got it, installed straight away (as another reviewer says plug the adaptor in and then insert disc.) thats it that was it installed. Found and Connected to the live box straight away, (if you have a livebox follow oranges instructions and dont forget to put the livebox in pairing mode by pressing the one button on the side) entered the security codes for the livebox and was away. connected to the room directly above the router and it has never dropped the connection so far, and always hovers around 3-4 bars, which isnt exceptional but its good enough for most people's needs, its a modest 54mbs which is good for the price. the only minor drawback, (which is pretty common, is the size, its quite wide for a usb device and so may obstruct any other usb points. It gets a little hot but not so hot that it'll burn a hole in your desktop. sure it might not be the top of the range adaptor but it is a great and reliable (so far) adaptor, which im using to write this review right now :D Rating: - Great piece of equipment and softwareUsually I have trouble with the wireless connection on my Panasonic Toughbook laptop; but the LM Network Adaptor has changed all that. Installing the software was simplicity itself; and it also offers full control via a control panel. My only complaint would be that it is far too easy to select the option of Windows managing the process instead of the bundled software - and using Windows was why I kept having trouble connecting in the past when I was using D-Link adaptors. I am using a D-Link modem router - model number: DSL2640B. That too has excellent software: very easy to understand - unlike the Buffalo product that I had before. Operating system of the Panasonic - Windows XP Professional. Rating: - Deceptive title mentioning linuxI bought this product because it mentioned linux in the title and the description. The product comes in a white, unbranded box, not mentioning linux in the hw requirements, without any kind of instruction leaflet and with a small cd apparently hand-burned with windows drivers only on it. The kind of driver/hardware is not in the ndiswrapper support list, and trying to make it work (ndiswrapper -i + modprob ndiswrapper, etc.) causes the USB bus to crash. There is no mention to product support or drivers on the producer website, and searching for "linux" with their website search engine doesn't return anything. I was able to find a native driver from another vendor for apparently similar underlying hardware, had to patch it for being able to compile under ubuntu gutsy gibbon, and be able to load it: sort of works in that it can scan the available networks (with no names) but connection is impossible. When contacting the seller asking for solutions I was only offered a refund. Total rubbish: don't buy this stuff if you care for linux support, and buy this for windows if you want a very cheap product with may work out of the box but gives you absolutely no information if something goes wrong. Rating: - Works greatThis is the second one of these I have the first came with a new Acer PC but the software is the same. It's a great bit of kit and so easy to set up just go into the wireless LAN configuration tools plus page and then set it up from there. I would recommend this for the price. |
