Electronics : KWorld DVD MAKER USB2.0+VS-USB2800D+DVD Direct BurnRating: - Works for me in VistaI bought this product so I could use my videocamera as a webcam - this works in the same way as transferring VHS to DVD or capturing your games console etc. Basically, I needed an external signal to be fed into my computer. I currently use Vista. This is how I installed the item: 1) Insert USB connection. 2) Close/Cancel any "New Hardware Found" boxes. 3) Insert KWorld Driver CD (and run autorun if nothing appears). 4) Click install driver. 5) A small dialog box appears to start the isntall and show when complete. The device is now installed on my machine and can be seen in the Device manager (shown as USB2860 or similar). If I open up Windows MovieMaker, then it can see the device and I can record video on my computer. I didn't install the other software provided as I didn't need to use that. I was setting up a webcam for Skype use. Unfortunately, Skype webcam interaction is not great so although the device is now seen in Windows, Skype cannot use it. I needed to download a third party program (such as splitcam or trackercam) to feed the signal through to Skype -- This worked perfectly and I am using the cam on Skype with no problems - both splitcam and trackercam can see the USB device and feed from it OK. See the Skype help section for info on DV cams if you are trying to do the same. Overall: The device feeds the signal from Composite OR S-Video as well as audio to my machine without any problems. AND it works in Vista! Visit K-World for extra support/drivers etc. Would recommend. Rating: - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IT IS AWFULWhilst the price and promise of trouble free transfer of videos to DVD may seem appealing, that is where the good news ends with this product. There are no instructions whatsoever, and I mean none. The two pieces of software that come with the product seem ok and I was able to capture video but no sound from a camcorder, but had no luck at all trying to capture from a PAL VHS player despite repeated efforts and going through all the settings. One reviewer above has mentioned downloading the latest Codecs. Whilst they probably have far more in-depth computer knowledge than i do i would recommend strongly against this - it wrecked my system. all sorts of applications now will not run e.g movie maker even after reading through the FAQs and disabling the antifreezer filter etc. this is very frustrating as i may actually have been able to use movie maker to do the transfer rather than the very limited inlcuded software but now i cannot use movie maker at all and meida player has developed faults too. all in all an utter disaster unless you enjoy throwing money away and banging your head against a computer screen for hours on end. AVOID Rating: - Kworld dvd makerHave been trying to get this thing to work for 3 days now and still havent got a clue.Lack of diagrams and set up options are really poor.I have also had to buy an s-video scart and it still doesnt work.It seems you get what you pay for. Rating: - Great for games captureFirst of all, let me just say that I did NOT buy this product to convert video, make DVDs or in any way edit existing "real-life" footage. I bought it as a cheap and cheerful way to start experimenting with video games capture from my Xbox 360. Therefore, I will not be commenting on any other functionality - look to other reviews for that :) All I did was plug it in to a USB port at the back of my computer, install it, and then I was able to link it to my Xbox using a composite connection (red, yellow, white leads!). The reason this product loses a star, though, is that I also had to shell out for an AV splitter and another composite lead so that I could have an input into my PC and my Xbox at the same time (i.e. actually play while video capture was enabled!). A reviewer below posted to say that he was only able to capture in black and white; this isn't quite true for me, although I had to find a way around this. First up, I downloaded the free software VirtualDub (recommended by many games sites for capture). This will enable capture brilliantly, in AVI with various types of data compression. I was also able to watch the video capture on my PC monitor so perfectly, I could've played games using that screen if I had wanted to; there was no detectable lag at all. The "black and white" problem comes in once you stop to consider that most games are running now in PAL 60MHz - the colour switches to black and white when you swap from 50MHz to 60MHz. Forza 2 and Halo 3 are just two such examples of games that only support 60MHz. HOWEVER, I found an easy way around this: VirtualDub allows you to switch the video capture options to NTSC, which makes it a colour picture again. This enables perfect video capture from any game!! I have since been able to edit a couple of montages and put them up on youtube (I had separate issues with the inconsistencies of Sony Vegas editing software on the first, but that's irrelevant to this review). Overall, this capture card is cheap, works exactly as I need it to, and I'm very happy with my purchase. 4/5 (-1 star for having to buy an AV splitter and composite lead separately) Rating: - Mac Compatible? Oh yes!5 Stars for the hardware and zero stars for the software. I have a dual-boot Mac and tried this with XP, PowerDirector is horrendous, there appears to be no audio monitor, neither VU or actual sound prior to capture, it also seems to be unstable, frequently hanging. I installed the DIVX codec and it produced files with drifting audio sync. Then I found VideoGlide,(Mac OSX) it will capture to .mov (with VU and audible audio present) you can then use iMovie or iDVD or export to DIVX using Quicktime. The results are very good. VideoGlide isn't free but if you using a Mac it puts you in a better environment with better tools and stable software. Maybe they could bundle this with it to appeal to the Mac community also. |
