Electronics : Netgear WG111 Wireless 54Mbps USB 2.0 AdapterRating: - very good producti bought this and a Netgear's 54 Mbps wireless router (WGR614v4) and it worked well...at 1st it was easy to get used to and it is a value for money product..i got into other peoples internet routers in an instant:P Rating: - Yo YoThe signal ranged from excellent to nil, moving slowly and eventually losing contact completely, then moving back to excellent. I installed the uprated software from the Netgear site with no improvement and no way of changing it from the American version. My cheap laptop had no problem picking up a signal from the same location. I finally gave on the WG111 and sent it back. Rating: - Excellcent easy to use & install-works with my Neighbours ASDLI originally bought this may 2005 along with Netgear Router, Tested it using friend's downstairs adsl(telephone line) worked Perfectly on XP Laptop. MY asdl provider failed to set up my phone line, so for a few years had kit rigged up and dangled very long phone line out of window to neighbours to update large files (for Win2000,Xp PC's)- al the time Recently Neighbours got a New 'Live BOx Wifi. Now with THEIR PERMISSION I use this USB Wifi device (router now boxed up), simply plug into into which ever PC I want on Line (XP/Win 2000) and having already selected (1 time only there WiFii Connection Name, and entered pass code) can surf 24/7. Between us 'Friends/family' are in 3 flats,4 Adult users(4 PC's,2 Laptops- different; manufacturers;types of WIfi devices;Win XP,Win2000,Vista), and Me with My Netgear USB wifi connector have NO problems all hanging of the same 'Live box'- which is NOT in my apartment..nor my friend next door. 3 years down the line price has dropped but quality of product has NOT. Highly recommend if you have wifi in the home and need to connect another PC or Laptop else where in the home. ;0)) Rating: - neat and straightforward to usei have been using this under win xp for several months. the installation was so painless that i cannot even remember it. i set up wpa psk with no bother. i would recommend going with the windows wireless setup: it is a bit less in your face, just gets on with the job quietly. it has worked flawlessy since i got it. Rating: - UnreliableI purchased this item as a bundle, and whilst the router has been perfect, the USB adapter has been a pain. I eventually gave up with it and purchased an internal card. It works well initially, but if you are a heavy user, like I am, it eventually fails. An earlier reviewer mentioned the problems with disconnection, which is easily resolved, however, when it fails to be detected when the pc/laptop starts up, then it's useless. The device cannot be plugged in when the equipment is already running, as it does not detect, it has to be installed at switch on. This defeats the purpose of USB, as this is supposed to be plug n play. |
