Electronics : Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 switchRating: - Good at first, but it's not robustI have just ordered a Buffalo router to replace my 2 year old Netgear, which has developed a hardware fault. With 4 ethernet cables connected some of the ports have become very unreliable and Netgear should be better than that. Rating: - Runs 3 comps and a Wii, no problemsI was sick and tired of my bt voyager disconnecting and aol was no help (Totally Useless Really). When someone told me to get this version which I did. I got a free usb wireless connector in this pack, some buy the one with out. Im not a dweeb when it come to stuff like this, but Im not a pro either. But this Granny got it installed and made her desktop pc wireless...I then bought another wireless adapter for the other desktop PC in the house and yup it was up and running too, no problems, My daughters laptop pick up our network no problems and so did the Wii. Speeds are consistently 100%(54mbps) from anywhere in the house or my garden, I sometimes have to reboot the netgear modem which may happen once in a month but it is on 24/7. The WPA-PSK is a safe and secure way to lock you internet access to stop roamers from stealing your connection, if my daughter has her friends over they find the network but cant connect until i put the pass key in and I always tell it not to save, which is another good thing. I used to have my computer attacked a lot by silly people, but now as Netgear has its own firewall, it has stopped all that. So I like the added security. Overall I wish I had bought this a lot sooner. After seeing it on AOL, saying it was one compatible with their software etc....Downloaded the instruction from them and off i went. This is for telephone broadband connection to the Internet not for cable Internet connection. I hope I covered something different to everyone else. Have a safe and fun time with this product. Rating: - Fixed antenna warningThe router was fairly easy to set up and maintains connectivity well. However, coverage to some parts of my house is patchy (eg I have to leave the doors open to maintain connectivity). I decided to change the antenna for a more powerful one - a commonly-suggested means to improve coverage. The trouble is that the currently shipping version (v4) of this router has a fixed antenna that CANNOT BE REPLACED. Earlier versions allowed replacement. Rating: - Took a while to setup and it works amazingly !!!I used to have a belkin wireless router which seemed to fail every 2 minutes !! Then we thought wireless would never work in our house. I got a talk talk wired router which failed every second !!! I couldnt take it anymore so I was reccomended by a friend to buy this router and it hasnt failed yet !!!! I had problems with talk talk letting me browse with this router but it was all sorted over the phone in about and hour. Netgear rules !! Rating: - What's all the fuss about?I purchased a new laptop for a friend and 10 days later I invested in this little beauty. Within 10 minutes it was up and running with her new laptop and 2 minutes later her son's laptop was on the wireless network. I was most impressed with the ease of setup using the wizard and the only delay was locating her ISP details from the original modem setup! Thoroughly recommended. |
