Electronics : Psion Revo Plus 16MBRating: - Connection to PC XP??I have just bought a Revo Plus - great little PDA, OK so it hasn't got a light which is a pain but its OK. My biggest bug is that I can't get it connected to my PC - I up-dated the PsiWin to run on 2000/XP AND bought a standard Serial/USB connector lead. Played around with the baud rates and still no luck.........can anyone help and offer some advice?? I see Amazon keep a Psion USB/Serial lead - therefore does it have to be a certain lead to cope with it?? Rating: - Brilliant PDAI thought this was easily one of the best PDAs I've come across, it has everything you might conceivably need, plus a lot more. It is easy to get (free) extra software for this machine and the possibilities are endless. I did find that I lost all my stored data when I let the battery run out, but this was my own fault and I had a backup on my PC. Just drop it in the cradle every night. PsiWin software is easy to use as well and the Epoc operating system is miles better than the pathetic Windows offering. Rating: - brilliant PDAhad the revo plus (in fact a diamond Mako) for a year now. very little to say against it, having owned a psion 5 previously. The increase in speed is marked and useful and unlike the 5 it is a genuinely pocketable device. Battery life - not brilliant - needs recharging very 6 or 7 hours. Keyboard - I can live with but I can see that people with big fingers may well have problems with it. Built in apps are both fast and comprehensive. PC connectivity with Win 98 is never a problem for me. Rating: - No good so I have got to sell itYes it is as good as everyone says with a huge drawback - the rechargeable battery pack is built in with no independent back up battery. When your battery runs out you lose all your info. I tried to back it up on my PC but newer laptops have no Serial port so you then have to buy a USB Serial adapter. The Psi Win software doesn't work with Windows 2000 so the Revo and the PC wont talk to each other so you can't back up your info on new pc's and new laptops. The battery doesn't last that long. Very disappointed. Rating: - Absolutely astoundingly BrilliantHaving owned the Revo for about a week now, I can say with confidence that it's the only PDA you'll ever need. My only criticism is (like others) the lack of backlight. Apart from that it's top class. The OS is quick and efficient. Programs run smoother and quicker than anything you've seen on Windows. There is a pretty good range of software (much of it free) on the internet that you can download and use on your Revo. Within half an hour I was controlling my TV and playing chess with the Revo! The PC-side software supplied is excellent, and in combination with the Revo's software, it offers effortless conversions of all Microsoft Office data to the Revo, and back again. Transfer of details between Outlook etc. is also good, working both ways. Included is a backup program, allowing you to backup/restore all information on/to the Revo to/from your PC with a few clicks. The build quality is truly excellent and even innovative ('clam-shell design' doesn't really do justice to the space-saving, elegant and practical ingenuity of the product), ahead of many other PDA's. The Revo is a tiny computer in its own right, even including a powerful programming language (OPL - you have to download the editor from Psion). It can run a Spectrum emulator (3000+ games!) and also TomTom's city maps. Sadly, like many of the best electronic products, it has been out-marketed by its rivals. Expect Psion support to drop off as time goes by. Get hold of the best PDA by far before they're all gone. Its only rival in terms of flexibility and power is Pocket PC - do you really want Gates' demon child to infest PDA's as well? Strike a note for freedom, buy a Revo! |
