Books : No Time For GoodbyeRating: - DisappointingAfter a very brief browse at an airport, I bought this. I knew nothing about it and didn't have any expectations - though one always hopes for something readable. This was the most poorly written book I have read. As others have mentioned, the colloqualisms and grammar are dreadful. If it's supposed to be representative of the way the characters speak - I pity the students the husband teaches. If it is simply how Linwood Barclay writes, then he does not deserve to be published. Unbelievable plot and characters. Very frustrating. Rating: - Excellent story to keep you grippedI really enjoyed reading this book and couldn't wait for the next installment. I love the way it all comes about and keeps you gripped all the way through, you dont have a clue where the story is heading. The story is written from the husband's point of view which i found gave the story an interesting view. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone. Rating: - First thriller I've read in a long long timeI borrowed this from a friend I work with. It is now going around the office and to different homes. It is a complete page turner and so hard to put it down once picked up. I had to make time and ignore everything else so I could finish it. You do get drawn in to the story and feel for the characters. A must read for everyone even if like me you aren't usually interested in thrillers. I am so tempted to go and buy this book so I can read it again! Rating: - Good page-turning escapismYes the ending is preposterous, yes I guessed a couple of the twists, but all in all if you want to escape into a ripping yarn for a few hours then you will not be able to put this down. Not a literary masterpiece but an engrossing and fast-paced thriller that will keep you guessing. I liked it. Rating: - Had PotentialI think this book has a great potential. The plot itself was intriguiung, but beyond that it offered little else. I agree with some of the other reviews that the latter stages of the book were predictable and cliche. I guessed the little twist very early on and hoped that the writer wanted me to think that so i could be led of elsewhere. It wasnt the case, there were not enough characters to even disguise this little twist, so its fairly predictable. For me it lacked any real bite and substance and it was a bit like reading a point horror book from my teenage years. But that said, it was a nice easy read, would be a good one to read on holiday or something. |
