She was only 5 days old when the alarm went off and when we picked her up she was breathing but shallowly, and she was on the cool side despite being well wrapped up. We took her straight to hospital and they kept her in for 3 days, lots of tests, and ultimately diagnosed her as fit and well, but there was no explanation apart from it was 'a newborn thing' and she may well have been fine anyway. I first heard about this type of monitor from a neighbour who recommended the Tommee Tippee Suresound Ultimate but we chose the Angelcare given that the parent unit is rechargeable (the Tommee Tippee isn't). I really wanted a video monitor but as we have wireless internet & telephones I was concerned re the interference. I am so glad I went for this monitor. The pad monitor is great. It is ressuring to know that with a small bleep every few seconds you know baby is ok, easier than staring at a video monitor. As a new first time Mum it allowed me to go to sleep safe in the knowledge that I would be woken if there were any problems. You can adjust the sensitivity of the unit and the temperature range.
