Hi Yudhistira,

Hmmm - that's a tricky one and I must confess I haven't put much thought into that particular aspect of 'selling' the software.

I believe that the GPL - which is the license the software is currently using - makes it clear that the software can't be sold per se, but that a charge can be made for the downloading of the software. As you would only need to download one copy then technically only one 'charge' is necessary.

On the other hand - I'm only using the cart to prompt people to make a donation which would otherwise slip their mind. It could be argued that if you use a script on multiple sites - and it makes you money on multiple sites - then you should at least consider making a donation in line with the benefit you receive from the software.

I don't have a hard and fast view of it - and I'm certainly not going to 'get legal' over it all, so I will leave it up to the individual to decide whether to buy multiple copies, or whether to buy one copy and make a donation, or whether to simply buy one copy and leave it at that.

I've lost many days - perhaps weeks - of work (and a couple of friendships too) over the Joomla GPL thing, and I don't intend to start a whole new legal war over what is simply an attempt to bring in *some* money from my work.

I must say I've been pleased at the response in general to my move to using a cart. So far I've not had a single negative comment (although I do expect them sooner or later) accusing me of extortion or not playing fair or of being a capitalist pig, etc.

In closing - do whatever you feel is fair (and that you can afford), and I thank you for your support and your testimonial.

Perhaps you can explain to me what is going on over at "id jooomla". I thought I'd been particularly reasonable in saying that one license was all that was required and that it was okay to use the component more than once - but to also request that people bear in mind my contribution to them.

Now I find you are handing it out for anyone.

Whilst the component is GPL and this is *technically* allowed - I feel it is a breach of trust. I make my living with my software and my services. I hoped that this would be respected and that people would be okay with the concept of paying me back for my time and effort in making this integration component.

From my understanding of what I am seeing I feel betrayed - you get to use the component on multiple sites, come here and ask for my input, then rub it in my face and start handing the component out far and wide.

Yudhistira, I'd like to know your thoughts on this, perhaps I'm misunderstanding what I am reading. My software is commercial Open Source, yes Open Source, but I cannot continue support / development if people are going to abuse my efforts.

Has anyone else any input on this? A translation of the text from the Remository entry on the site in question would be useful - I believe it is Indonesian (but I could be wrong). Iwon't post a link but if anyone wishes to help with translation I will email a link.
