TOPIC: Can\'t Get it

Can't Get it 2006/11/03 23:47
I hang my head in shame.

I've tried about everything I can think of to get this going correctly. I've read everything I can find on it, but the most detailed explanation I've come across so far is:

Q: The front page of my store displays correctly - but when I click on a link I am taken to APF, not to Joomla with APF Bridge.
A: This is most commonly caused by incorrectly setting the APF path parameter in the Components -> APF by MrRat

How does this happen:
When APF Bridge retrieves a page from APF the content contains links to the full APF script.
The bridge looks for these links - which by definition contain the correct 'path to APF'
Assuming that your settings are correct APF Bridge looks for the path you specified and replaces links with links to Joomla.
Because you give the wrong path - APF bridge doesn't locate links containing the data you provided - the links are left pointing to the full store.
Any click on such links takes you to the full APF installation

Okay, so I get it that I've entered it wrong. But how do I correct it? I've tried every combination I can come up with. I've told OpenSEF not to make the URLS friendly, and used

component/option,com_apf_bridge/Itemid,51/amazon_products_feed.cgi

as the "path" with no luck. I've told OpenSEF to use /shop/ as the url and then entered:

/shop/amazon_products_feed.cgi

as the "path" with no luck. I have no idea what I'm supposed to put in here.

Help please? When you get time? I'll sing your praises forever!

Thanks,
Schelly

I have never used the component with OpenSEF - my advice is to keep OpenSEF away from the component altoghter including not transforming the urls to all lowercase. APF needs access to CASE SENSITIVE Urls.

The two main parameterst in the APF configuration screen are:
The full url of the APF installation you are linking to (full url).
The path to APF (same thing without your domain - starting from the leading slash).

Url: http://www.yourdomain.com/path/to/apf.cgi
Path: /path/to/apf.cgi

Hope that helps.

Hi Dean,

Okay, my APF (Mr. Rat's standalone script) is installed under the cgi-bin directory in an apf4 directory as instructed.

I've probably gone overboard with OpenSEF because I've told it not to convert cases and I've told it not to mess with APF.

That leaves the "path" to be determined.

In your example it said to put the path to APF (not the APF Bridge) from the webroot and provided this example:

/store/amazon_products_feed.cgi

If I am putting in the path to the APF standalone script, not the APF Bridge component, wouldn't that be in my case:

/cgi-bin/apf4/amazon_products_feed.cgi

Or am I misunderstanding this part?

Thank you so much for not making me feel like a dummy...

As long as that is the full path to your copy of the script that looks about right to me.

If you try going directly to http://www.<yourdomain.com>/cgi-bin/apf4/amazon_products_feed.cgi
do you see your copy of APF?
(obviously substitute your actual domain in place of <yourdomain.com> in the example.

Let me know how it goes.

I do offer an installation service and also a troubleshooting service if you need hands on assistance.
