bit of a long shot, but hey... 2007/06/04 18:42 Karma: 0
I am currently using jreviews on my site and wondered if there is someway to pass some variables from that component into apf bridge?, an example is,

use the jreview to review a CD and include a link to buy that CD from Amazon, the user clicks the link and the Variable is passed to the APF bridge script to show that product. I like jreview but if I put a link to Amazon it opens in a new window with the possiblity of buying only one product. Whereas, APF lets the user shop & shop until they checkout.

Thanks

Essentially this boils down to whether or not the other component parses plugins (formerly mambots) within its content. If you put a mosAPF mambot tag in does it get parsed.

If not - and if the component is Open Source I could probably advise on a suitable hack (edit) to make it work - but ultimately it is more an issue for the developer of that component.

The mambot can create simple links to APF Bridge product pages, embed search results, or actual product details into any place where mambots are parsed. The question of whether they are parsed is a different issue.

Yip, it parses the mosAPF code result sort off, within the APF is it possible to just include a link without the addtional information, then when the link is clicked your taken to product info? Similar to a basic Amazon Build link?

I don't want much do I?

Btw this is very off topic, I was about to get new hosting with 1&1 but wanted to see customer reviews, so I searched using Google, and your Post about 1&1 came up lol, was that a life saver.

Anyways, can I ask who provides your hosting?

Thanks
Jon

This is a link to how I'm using the APF at the moment, I see you are asking on your site for APF Bridge Users, the site is under heavy construction, but it s a good indication of how I'm using APF: http://www.newvisioninternet.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=53&Itemid=55

If you find the product in the APF store you could just paste a link into the content. mosAPF can create a link - I don't remember the format - never actually used it for that other than to demo the idea. It is documented somewhere probably in the mosAPF Readme.txt file

#APF Action='ProductsLink' ItemId='<ASIN_1 here>[,<ASIN_2 here> .. ,<ASIN_10 here>]' [locale='<locale>'] LinkText='<Some Link Text>'#

I'm using # instead of curly braces - and I'm using square brackets to indicate optional elements.

Incidentally if you want to center the APF Footer then try adding this to your template's .css file.
.apf_footer{text-align: center;}

While we are on the subject of templates - RocketTheme cough cough - you do know I work with the JoomlaShack guys right?

Thanks for the info about where you are using the component - I should do more to ask for such info - maybe I'll create an extra board on the forums for people to showcase their APF stores / mosAPF usage.

lol yeah I know your work alongside then, as a designer or just a developer? as for Rockettheme, I actually removed the copyright Rockettheme link from the page only because I inserted a logo which was a joint copyright logo, but the logo isn't quite right yet, in the mean time its just a placeholder when the site goes live, the Rockettheme people will get credit.

and thanks for the patience regarding my questions it just the component seem to be able to do so much, I'll just keep pushing until you say, "Nope it can't do that"

I can't design my way out of a paper bag - but I'm not exactly a developer either. Jack of all - master of none. I'm their head of support so if people struggle with templates, etc I help out. I also dabble with a bit of programming, helping out if there are server issues, etc, .htaccess problems and any other issues arising.

I am - as they say - the goto guy.

On the subject of 1and1 and technical support - last time I checked I outrank them in google for the term '1and1 technical support' - lol.

To be fair - I'm still with them. Hosting is pretty much rock solid. It is just that when it does go wrong - you are on your own.
