charset problem 2007/04/29 12:53
Hi there,

my site is in german and there we have these lovely umlauts. As charset I'm using iso-8859-1, but I guess the apf-feed is in utf-8. Is there any possibility to change the feed to iso-8859-1. Otherwise I have to change my whole site to urf-8 which I like to avoid ...

Thx for the great work!

I have the same problem. I tried changing the main template to UTF-8, bud doesn't help (now everything else wrong, *but* APF.

Is there any solution?

If you would care to take the latest and greatest build for a testdrive. Log into the admin backend of your site and in the APF Bridge configuration options try out the new 'experimental' setting related to charactersets and html entities.

The setting triggers a function that tries to convert these extended characters to html entities - this *should* mean that all other characters are left unchanged and so your normal template character set can be left in use.

Hopefully this will ease the problem - I await your feedback with some anticipation. In testing - which is kind of artificial because I am using the standard western character set - extended characters such as the £ sign (UKP or GBP) were converted correctly and I was able to leave my template using iso 8859-1.

Let me know how it goes. The in-place upgrade version should mean you can upgrade the component without having to undo any of your work.

Hi Dean,

as I told you in the other forum, the new version works perfect and shows all special chars. Thx a lot!

I love it when a plan comes together.

Of course whenever that phrase was used a certain bunch of gents always ended up prisoners in a barn somewhere with only an armour plated tractor and oxyacetylene welding gear to help get them out.

I'll get the welding gear ready - just in case it doesn't work out as planned.
