Editorial Review:
Product Description:
Entrepreneurial dreams do come true! Starting with nothing more than a home brewing kit, Sam Calagione founded Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and made it America's fastest growing independent beer. This unconventional business story reveals how Calagione found success by dreaming big, working hard, and thinking differently-and how you can do it too.
"Rarely is a book as good as a beer but this one is. It's written with humor, humility, and passion, essential ingredients for any entrepreneur."
-Bob Guccione Jr. founder of Spin magazine and Gear magazine
"Brewing Up a Business will inspire both entrepreneurs and aspiring small business people to have the confidence in following their dreams."
-Jim Davis Chairman and CEO of New Balance
"Sam Calagione embodies the spirit of a true Delaware entrepreneur. Starting out as the smallest brewery in the nation, Sam's ambition, acute business sense, and vision have allowed Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to successfully enter an extremely competitive market as Dogfish Head continues to leave an indelible mark on the beer industry."
-Ruth Ann Minner Governor of Delaware
"Everything you want to know about succeeding in business you can learn from beer. At least you can if it's the remarkable story of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Brewing Up a Business is like a 'how-to' manual for entrepreneurs. With humor, creativity, and wisdom, Sam Calagione has crafted a new kind of business book that's as unique as his great beer!"
-Joe Calloway author of Becoming a Category of One and Indispensable

- Brewing up a businessThis has been the most helpful book in the review of my (now 5 year old) business. Helped me to get back to the heart of why I am doing what I do.
Loved it! Angela- Michigan

- Feel Good Beer for the Feel Good PersonOkay, everyone who has read this loves Sam's beer, its amazing. His beer makes you feel good, and so does the book. The problem is that we readers dont want to feel good, we want to know how to make the stuff that makes you feel good and how to get that feel good stuff to people. I suppose that those tidbits about overcoming bad business blues is important, but I would think that the home brewer already has a penchant for overcoming those obsticals. Anyhow, its more like a coach giving a speach before the big game, not the coaching required to get you prepared for the big game.
Rating:
- Brewing up a BusinessGreat story and learning material for anyone who is trying to start their own brew pub. There is a wealth of knowledge shared through Dogfish Head's sucesses and pitfalls. Great read for anyone starting a business, brewery or not.

- Additional generic awesome review!Let's be honest - if anyone knows about brewing and the brewing business, it's Sam. His chronicles of a half-madman half-beer-lover turned brewery owner are fantastic. He shows that you really don't have to know about business in order to run one, but for Heaven's sake learn from your mistakes and get all the help you can. This is incredibly inspiring and reassuring for those considering opening his or her own brewery, reviewer included. It should however, like anything he writes, come with a coupon for a free four/six pack of Dogfish brew.
Rating:
- InspiringIt really is a light in a tunnel when you're an entrepreneur that is breaking new ground. Offers hood advise on steps to take and importance on building the team.
