TinA (Tina Is not Apf) Amazon Web Services script.
What is Project TinA?
Tina is a PHP conversion / adaptation of MrRat's Amazon Products Feed
script which for the last five years has been a leader in the field of not
only Amazon Web Services scripts but of Web Services scripts period.
The TinA conversion is primarily the work of Dean Marshall although MrRat
has been assisting and has promised to continue to be available in a
consulting capacity. Obviously without the original APF there would be no
conversion and without MrRat's agreement / permission to convert there
would be no TinA - so my thanks to MrRat three times over.
The input of APF community hero 'TomPaine' is also greatfully
acknowledged - thanks Johannes.

My Amazon Products Feed Bridge component which integrates six Amazon stores into the Joomla Content Management System is now compatible with the Mambo CMS. For those who don't know Mambo is the parent project from which Joomla sprang. Making the component work with Mambo is the first step in a program of diversifying the component to run on more CMSs and blogs.
Following recent developments over in the JoomlaSphere - I withdrew the APF Bridge component and related modules and Mambots(plugins) from the Joomla Extension Directory. As well as being available on this site the component is listed on the Extensions Professionals website run by the Joint Commercial Developers Association.
For those of you who are unaware of the recent developments to which I refer please read on for a brief summary, some key links and some advice which I think anyone running a Joomla website for business purposes should know.

Amazon Component Now Mambo Compatible

Following a somewhat extended absence from development of
Amazon products Feed Bridge - just when I was on the cusp of
releasing a new version - I am now back at the helm.
I have spent the last twenty four hours tidying up a couple
of minor matters - mainly documentation related and feel that
the result is worthy of release. This was to be a significant
step on the road to a version 1.0 stable release - I've had
a few distractions and a few other issues and whilst the
release numbering still reflects this position things are
perhaps not as solid as the numbering might suggest.
Please read on for some important information about this 'release'.

New Version - tentatively - out now

A new version of Amazon Products Feed Bridge is imminent. I am just awaiting feedback from a few testers, and trying to beef up the documentation on a few questions that are starting to be asked a little bit too frequently.
Anyway - I am tentatively thinking of calling these versions Release Candidate 1 - which means that barring major issues they will become the version 1 proper in fairly short order. I don't think all of my originally intended features are present - but the ones that most people will use most of the time are there.
The main features not fully implemented are centred on allowing visitors to select their preferred locale (country) and allowing this to override the component's / webmaster's default locale. I think this would be a nice feature but rarely used - so I am moving it to the wishlist for any future version 2.0 . |

My frontpage mod file is a plugin for MrRat's perl script Amazon Products Feed - or APF. It will work with APF when used as a stand-alone script or when incorporated into Joomla with my APF Bridge component. The purpose of this mod file is to enable you to add extra text on the frontpage of your store. This is a commercial addon that allows you to:
- Show any text you want on your store's frontpage
- Optionally show different front page for each locale.
- Optionally show the normal 'BrowseMenu' (below)

Well I have just lost another day and a half on what should have been such a simple choice. In essence, if I am to spend more time working on this project I have to be able to justify switching my time from client work. That means requesting payments (donations) from the users of APF and its accompanying bits and pieces.
I have researched quite a few Paypal modules for Joomla and frankly I am disappointed. The upshot is that I have had to build my own paypal module.

Another day lost - finding a paypal module

Well, I haven't had as much time to spend on development as I might have hoped these past few days - but the time I have spent on the component and in particular on the plugin (mambot) has proved particularly fruitful.

While I am on the subject of graphics - what do you think of my new
logo for APF Bridge? I took my lead from the Lightfast template logo, I
just knocked up the same idea. Amazingly I did this all by myself and
in less than half an hour - using 'Fireworks' a fantastic package.

Before I start on this one - let me make one thing clear - recently I
have started to do quite a bit of work for JoomlaShack, this article is
in no way to be read as an attack on JoomlaShack or my colleagues over
there. But I think that this article will highlight the difficulties
template designers face. How can they know all the uses (and abuses)
that will be thrown at their work.
