The add-on (not an 'installable Joomla Component but a standalone script) enforces a 'one strike and you are out' policy on those making hack attempts against your Joomla site. It also implements detection of robots.txt abusers and offers protection against 'site rippers' (automated scripts that try to download entire sites).

Joomla Security Script Updated

The script has recently received a couple of important updates. Firstly it has been made broadly compatible with Joomla 1.5 RC2 bringing some protection where previously there was little / none.

Additionally - analysis of thousands of hack attempts shows that a majority are implemented using cgi and similar scripts with only a small range of 'user agent strings' - (browser identifiers). Consequently we have tightened the 'user agent' detection within the script to block the most frequent abusing user agents outright.
